A garden without a lawn is a garden that is easy to maintain. You won’t have to mow, weed, or water abundantly. These chores are not part of maintaining a grassless garden. Another advantage, if you still want to cover your soil with plants, there are many alternatives, and these are less greedy in water and maintenance time. We think in particular of plants called ground covers such as dwarf chamomile or Cynodon. These plants are ideal if your garden without a lawn is important because they can cover large spaces.

Lawnless garden: our advice for the right landscaping

Maintenance-free doesn’t mean doing anything in your garden at all. You do not have a lawn, of course, but it will nevertheless be necessary to ensure that your vegetation grows correctly without invading the various spaces created. To avoid these inconveniences, it is essential before planting to clearly define each space, to create a landscaping plan for your garden. This way, you can intelligently distribute the plants you want to incorporate into your grassless garden: minerals, plants, shrubs, trees, ground cover.

To limit vegetation, perhaps you also want to create a large terrace? Remember to place it on your plan and create vegetation from it.

Which plants to choose for a garden without grass?

Depending on the nature of your soil, your tastes, and the orientation of your land, the choice of possible plants is very wide. The best is to arrange each space with different plants, especially when complimenting a new home remodel For example, why not select plants with varied flowering, so you can mix evergreen foliage with succulents. It is also the latter that we advise you when setting up a garden around the swimming pool. Your different spaces can be delimited by minerals or by the edges of a terrace.

Also, consider the care of each plant and shrub before selecting them. For example, to plant at the edge of the garden, we can think of oleander. Very persistent, as beautiful in hedges as in beds, it requires only one pruning per year. Shrub roses are also very popular for landscaping a garden without a lawn. They don’t need watering or pruning and will bring a sweet scent to your space.

Finally, a grassless garden gives pride of place to relaxation areas. So focus on the layout of your terrace. In stone, wood, or gravel, take care of its furnishings and decoration. The terrace will bring all the splendor to your garden and your home.

Create a garden without a lawn but with a great diversity of plants

How to do it? By creating different spaces: flower beds, natural planters, embankments… Then choose the plants suited to your soil. Each space has its charm: here flowers, there shrubs, here a mixture of ground cover and climbing plants.

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to colors, but also the hardiness of the plants. Choose an evergreen and leafy foliage to create volume. Plants that bloom gives your lawnless garden different colors throughout the seasons. It’s for you to see!

Gravel and potted plants for simplicity and aesthetics

Gravel is a draining material, so it will allow rainwater to be absorbed by your land without risking flooding. There are all kinds of gravel, of different sizes – grain size -, of different shapes and in several colors. Yellow, pink, white, black, you can create a real rainbow on the ground of your land. When gravel is used to cover large areas, it is generally referred to as the development of a mineral garden.

And for those who do not want to plant on the ground, potting plants also allows you to play on volume, shapes, and colors.

Increase the number of terraces

The arrangement of the garden also means being concerned with the location of the terrace and its construction. If your garden is large, why not make several different terraces. Create spaces, a gravel terrace at the lowest, wooden at the highest, connected by a stone landing. Everything is possible.
